Cologne Special

Edwards painting The 1st year which is still on its world tour has spent some weeks with host Jochen in the beautiful city of Cologne, Germany recently.

Thank you Jochen for being such an impeccable host and doing so much for this blog project. As you all can see, Jochen took the painting out to the most famous landmark in the city the Cologne Cathedral which is huge as the painting had to experience directly in front of it.

Then there was a view over the river to some outstanding industrial buildings, we just love this view and the architecture, surely on Edwards agenda next time he is in Cologne.

And then an outing during a romantic sunset with spectacular views over the river Rhine to the historic city centre with again the skyline of the cathedral in the back and the Rhine bridge on the right. Very impressive.

Even a small easel was provided so that the painting was comfortable, risky to the varnish of the car we might add ...

Finally, when it was time to say goodbye Jochen even managed to have the painting shipped through UPS who normally do not take on paintings, but Jochens good relations to the chairman of the workers council at UPS, Markus Busch, made it possible and Markus even picked up the painting and personally arranged all details for the shipping to the South of France where it is now.

Postcard from Provence

The painting The 1st year has spent the last four weeks in Provence with a fellow artist of Edwards, Liza Hirst, and surely enjoyed the artistic company in a beautiful surrounding. We were just wondering, is this grass real? Already such a green color? Well, supposedly so, as they are in the South of France ......

Change of Tour Plan

To all of you, who have kindly enlisted to Edward B. Gordons A Painting On Tour project, where his painting The 1st Year is traveling on a world tour to various hosts and locations.

And exactly this international destinations with the painting going forth and back are giving us some trouble at the moment in respect of customs procedures etc.

Therefore we have changed the tourplan and will now send the painting on tour continent by continent, meaning we will now firstly work all European destinations as there is no problem between these countries with importing and exporting.

After that we will send the painting to the US and Canada and keep it there until every US destination enlisted today has been met.

After the US we will do the other continents if we can work out customs procedures until then.

We are from now on not accepting new destinations for the project to keep this plan going. Afterwards we shall see.

The painting and the planetarium

During its recent stay in Berlin, the painting The 1st year was taken by its ost Meik for a visit around town and to the planetarium. Well, nothing is known if they actually went in, but there the painting is amidst of snow on a grey day infront of a very grey building....Winter in Berlin.

Indianapolis London Paris

Now, the painting has already been on quite a tour in the US but lately, after a few weeks in Indianapolis, it went back to Old Europe where its recent host took it to the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Louvre in Paris.

So, it started in Indianapolis at Jeff´s home where his son George is the proud owner of another painting by Edward B. Gordon.

A painting in the park

During its stay in Shoreline, near Seattle, recently the painting spent time out with its host in the park, sunshine, shortsleeves for the lady - well that was still summer that seems already gone for a while now although it has been only a couple of weeks since these photos were taken. Thanks Carolanne for hosting the painting and taking part in this adventure.

Space Traveller

Thanks to the recent host Judy, the painting The 1styear by Edward B. Gordon made it into NASA's EMU" , ExtraVehicular Mobility Unit = EMU. headquarters and met up with an astronaout. Thank you so much Judy for all your efforts, we really appreciate it, and thanks to all the NASA engineers who also made that happen!!
The EMU NASA uses is the worlds smallest spacecraft, with everything an astronaut needs to stay alive: oxygen, water temperature control and CO2 removal. NASA uses 18,000 parts to protect astronauts, including a puncture resistant outer layer to protect from micrometeroids travelling at 17,000 miles per hour. The jet pack allows mobility in space.
The jet ensemble can be had for $20 Million dollars, doesn't slenderize you and adds 200 pounds on the ground: but off the ground, one looks pretty stylish in it and it is a great outfit in which to see the world and also be seen with!!!! The jet pack and certain other space suit parts shown, have actually been in space, conducting space walk missions and repairs.

Well, I suppose, the painting would have been quite keen to stay or even join the next mission, but it had to stay and travel on to its next tour stop, apart from NASA probably not being too keen taking some oils on wood with them ........

In splendid company

The painting The 1st year is now staying in Houston, Texas and has already teamed up with some very impressive other paintings by the American artists Karin Jurick, Jeff Cohen, and Robert Deyber.

New Tour Stop

The painting on tour titled The 1st year has now arrived in Houston, Texas, as its host told us, near the NASA space center - oh, dear future hosts, Edward and I do hope the painting stays on the ground and does not decide to embark on a space tour or change its kind of transport to the next destination(s) - imagine the parking situation if it arrived in a space craft ......
